So after working on some of my Kendra of the North stuff it got me looking at some of my old art and I found some sketches for a short that I never ended up doing. The sketches however made me wanna take another crack at drawing some characters from it. The short was called "Love is Blind" and was an origin story of Medusa. At a young age she fell in love with a blind boy from a nearby village who lost his way. However, when the townspeople found out that the boy had been spending time with the monster, let alone in love with the creature, the villagers took up arms and stormed Medusa's cave. The boy died trying to protect her and it turned Medusa into a vengeful soul. She turned all the villagers into stone for taking away the one thing in the world that she cared for. Afterwards, she took the body of her fallen love deep into the cave where she vowed to watch over him for the rest of her life. She left the stone corpses decorating her cave as a symbol of the fate of any and all who try to separate her from her love. Maybe one day I'll follow through with the short but until then I'll always have this picture. I hope you guys like it.

There was a man that was cursed by Athena for looking at her bathing. Accidentally, of course. And I always thought that Tireseus and Medusa would be a good fit. Not unlike what you have here. Good job.

Oh wow. I adore this. Before I say anything else just let me say how sweet and honest and true this is. Even if the rest of the world looks at the person you love and sees a monster, you'll always see something precious, something worth cherishing. Like that whole one mans trash saying only with people.
That said, I gotta throw out how heavy this is. While it's right up my dark little alley... There are a lot of stories about Medusa, and why she is what she is. The only common strand in them all is that Athena turned her into the gorgon monster we all know. My favorite - and one of the most common variations on the story - is that she was a very beautiful young woman. Enough so that Poseidon wanted to hit that. But Medusa didn't want him. Soooo he raped her. She tried to hide in Athena's temple but... The Greek Gods are not kind. Either Athena was pissed that she didn't try to KILL Poseidon, or she felt so bad for her that she gave her a backhanded gift of making it so that no man would ever do that to her again. You pick.
For me, this kinda has a grain of what could be true in that story in it. Medusa was young and pretty. She would have had some boy she loved. All young pretty women do. Wouldn't it just be ironic if that boy were one that was blind that she loved BECAUSE he was blind? Like, she was secretly insecure, or she felt bad and after she knew him loved him? That would make it even more likely that even if he found out what she had become he would still love her, and that this would happen.
Either way, or without all that, I still love it. Totally watching you now.

That's an interesting story. Way different from the original myth, too. That's cool.

Was this your original idea, for Medusa to fall in love with a blind man? Or inspired by another tale/fable? It's a wonderful idea but I feel like I've heard it from somewhere else
